Both of our psychology practices are close to the suburb of Newtown in the Inner-West of Sydney. Our Mascot psychology clinic is just a 10-12min drive away, while our Rosebery psychology practice can be easily reached by public transport (bus 370) or a similarly short 13-15min drive. Free parking is available around both of our locations.

The kind of therapy we wish to offer the Newtown community is first and foremost humanistic and person-centred. Nowadays, Clinical Psychologists tend to master various state of the art treatments and novel techniques. However, seasoned therapists often lament this may be a misfocus, since too much of what has been introduced appear to be reinventing the wheel (e.g., keep generating new prescriptive procedures for what has been done effectively in fluid ways), and too many of us seem to have adopted the role of “technicians” who administer complex interventions, instead of therapists whose main mission is to extend our understanding and assistance to another person who is struggling with the human condition (e.g., “to understand and mend the broken heart, or to heal the tortured soul” as respected mentors in the field used to say).

To do the above well, emphasis need not be placed on using the flashiest of techniques or the latest and greatest treatments. Good therapists focus on getting to genuinely know and connect with each client at a deeper level, so we can make well-informed inferences about the client (e.g., form sophisticated hypotheses about the individual’s struggles; make careful interpretations about any curious choice of words, so-called pregnant silences, subtle inconsistencies in thoughts and emotional expressions, and anything potentially significance that happens in session). It is by understanding and connecting with each client at such an intimate level that allows us to truly empathise with and positively influence individual clients.
