Fees and Rebates

Fees and Rebates

Coming from a background of servicing some of the most disadvantaged members of society before starting this practice, we have always strived to make high quality psychotherapy accessible. In line with this, we have set our fees lower than the APS’s recommended rates of $300 per session, and also lower than most services providing similar services in our area.

The current gap fee to see one of us is around $102-103 per session. Specifically, the standard session fees are $240 with a Clinical Psychologist (Medicare rebate $137.05) and $195 with a Registered Psychologist (Medicare rebate 93.35). To access the rebates you will need a doctor’s referral that includes a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) aka Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). The initial referral will enable 6 rebates, and you can review and extend the plan with your referrer after. There is a cap of max 10 MHTP rebates per calendar year (ie, refreshes 1st of January), but there is the possibility of using other lesser rebates after that. Also note that the rebate received will increase significantly for the remainder of the year once you passed the Medicare Safety Net.

Clients can also fund the sessions privately. Many private health insurance cover psychological services. The coverage and rates vary considerably. Please check with your insurer for details.

Payment Method

We can only accept credit or debit card payments – processed electronically – like making an online purchase. This means we require your card details, which you can directly input into our online intake form (our staff will only be able to see the last 4 digits thereafter), or you can bring the card with card number / CCV aka CVV / expiry date to your session. Your card will be stored Halaxy (a widely used healthcare system) that boasts bank-grade security.

WorkCover / CTP / DVA / NDIS / etc

If you are expecting any private or public agency to fund your sessions, you must communicate that to us from the outset to ensure: (1) you can be seen by a practitioner who is registered with your funding agency; (2) you have the correct paperwork and approval from the funding agency to cover your psychology sessions. If you cannot confirm these two points, we can only proceed as a privately funded session. Note that most funding agencies do not cover late cancellation and no show fees (NDIS is an exception and will cover these costs too).

Please note that very few of us are SIRA registered, so we have limited availability for WorkCover and CTP clients (unless your case manager approves your therapy to be delivered by non-SIRA registered practitioners). We are able to take on new NDIS referrals if the client is self-managed or plan-managed, and do not require us to be a NDIS registered provider.

Cancellation Policy

Please notify us >24 hours if you need to cancel your appointment (excluding weekends and public holidays). This means, for example, if you have a Monday 2pm session you must contact us no later than Friday 2pm.

Late notice will incur half the standard session fee. Please understand that regardless of the reason (eg, sickness), a late cancellation results in a loss. To be transparent, psychologists can only book 5-6 clients a day (due to the many admin tasks pre/post each session). This means as little as 2 late cancellations will result in a 33% to 40% loss that cannot be absorbed. Most practices require the client to cover the entirety of this risk/loss. In contrast, our psychologists are willing to share half of the risk/loss incurred from unexpected cancellations.

We respect some clients may still find the cancellation fee unacceptable. We can only ask these clients to be honest and upfront with us, so we can avoid reserving time in advance and ensure neither party is taking on more risk/loss than they can bare. The alternative arrangement we can try is just call on the day when a session is needed to see if a suitable slot is available.

No show (ie, no notice before your session time starts) will incur the full session fee. Your psychologist would have already prepared for the session, and spent significant portions of the session time waiting for you, in case you just are arriving late.

Other Services

Supervision are offered at $240 per session (plus GST). One-to-one is the preferred format but pairs or even small groups are possible.

We only offer Medico-Legal psychological reports and Expert Witness services (ie,, attending court to to provide expert opinions) under exceptional circumstances. For a crude guide of the fees involved, please see the current APS fee schedule. Please be reminded that the produced reports and clinical opinions must be unbiased (ie, may not be advantageous to your case).

ADHD Assessments to confirm or rule out a diagnosis will usually require 2-3 sessions. If report writing is required, it may cost roughly 2 hours (plus GST). The exact fees should be discussed between you and your psychologist in the first session.

Requests for supporting letters or certificates, or for the practice to send clinical records to lawyers and insurers etc., will attract reasonable fees to cover the time and other costs involved.
