I have always believed that therapy, at its core, is a deeply human conversation. Long before I trained as a psychologist, my understanding of human struggle was shaped by observing how history, family stories, and migration sculpt the mind. Growing up across Vietnam, the United States, and Australia, I learned early on that our emotional lives are rarely simple. We carry with us the invisible threads of where we come from, the unsaid expectations of our upbringings, and the quiet ways we adapt to feeling “othered.”
In my early practice across public hospital units, acute crisis teams, corporate sectors, and international community settings, I saw firsthand that genuine healing rarely comes from rigidly applying a textbook manual. While rigorous science is essential, therapy only works when there is a real, authentic relationship in the room – a space where you feel truly heard, held, and understood without judgement.
My therapeutic style is warm, curious, and collaborative. I view therapy as a process of gently unspooling the patterns that keep us stuck. Together, we look not just at practical symptom relief for today, but at the deeper relational dynamics, attachment wounds, and childhood experiences that shape how you relate to yourself, others, and the world around you.
I work primarily with adults navigating complex emotional terrain, including:
● Complex Trauma & Relational Patterns: Making sense of adverse childhood experiences, family-of-origin dynamics, and longstanding interpersonal struggles.
● Identity, Minority Stress & LGBTQIA+ Mental Health: Navigating the subtle pressures of cultural assimilation, dual heritage, gender identity, and diverse expressions of self.
● Men’s Mental Health, Masculinity & Relationships: Unpacking societal pressures, emotional suppression, intimate relationship dynamics, and how adverse childhood experiences shape self-worth and closeness in adult men.
● Emotion Dysregulation & Personality Vulnerabilities: Finding stability, self-compassion, and authentic self-worth amid intense emotional storms or chronic self-doubt.
To support our work, I integrate evidence-based approaches – including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Schema-Informed Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), the Unified Protocol (UP), and Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR) – tailoring them fluidly to your unique pace and goals.
I am fluent in English and native Vietnamese, and I welcome the opportunity to support clients from all walks of life.
Research & Clinical Foundation
Alongside my clinical work, I am an Australian Research Council Scholar at the University of Sydney, where my doctoral research investigates the cognitive drivers of mental health stigma, essentialist beliefs, and how societal category boundaries impact psychological well-being. Having practiced and presented across five countries, I bring a dedicated scientist-practitioner lens to the clinic – ensuring our work is grounded in contemporary psychological science while remaining deeply human and culturally safe.
Outside the Clinic
To restore my own balance, I immerse myself in creative and tactile pursuits. You can often find me listening to classical performances at the Sydney Opera House, practicing Zen calligraphy, or exploring Sydney’s natural landscapes with a Fujifilm camera in hand. I believe that finding beauty and presence in the everyday world is just as vital to our well-being as the work we do inside the therapy room.
