Fees and Rebates

Fees and Rebates

Coming from a background of servicing some of the most disadvantaged members of society before starting this practice, we have always strived to make high quality psychotherapy accessible. In line with this, we have set our fees far below the APS’s recommended rate of $330 per session, and also lower than many practices providing similar services in our area.

The current gap fee to see one of us is around $109 per session. Specifically, the standard session fees are $255 with a Clinical Psychologist (Medicare rebate of $145.25) and $208 with a Registered Psychologist (Medicare rebate of $98.97). To access the rebates you will need a doctor’s referral that includes a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). The initial referral will enable 6 rebates, but you can review and extend the plan with your doctor for further rebates. There is a cap of maximum 10 MHCP rebates per calendar year (ie, refreshes 1st of January), but there is the possibility of using other rebate items after exhausting the 10 MHCP rebates (eg, Eating Disorder Care Plan; Chronic Disease Management Plan aka Enhanced Primary Care Plan).

Of note, the rebate received will increase significantly for the remainder of the year once you passed the Medicare Safety Net (LINK). This means, if the total gap fees you paid that year (across all Medicare subsidised health services) have exceeded the specified amount (about $2600 for individuals and about $850 for pension or concession card holders), then Medicare will significantly increase further rebates and subsidies you receive for the remainder of the year.

Clients may also fund their sessions privately. Many private health insurance cover psychological services. However, the coverage and rates vary considerably. Please check with your insurer for details.

Payment Method

We can only accept credit or debit card payments – processed electronically – like making an online purchase. This means we require your card details, which you can directly input into our online intake form (our staff will only be able to see the last 4 digits of your card), or you can provide your card details to your psychologist on your first session. Your card will be stored in Halaxy (a widely used healthcare system) that boasts bank-grade security, and utilizes a payment processing systems that belongs to PayPal (LINK).

WorkCover / CTP / DVA / NDIS / etc

If you are expecting any private or public agency to fund your sessions, you must communicate that to us from the outset to ensure: (1) you can be seen by a practitioner who is registered with your funding agency; (2) you have the correct paperwork and approval from the funding agency to cover your psychology sessions. If you cannot confirm these two points, we can only proceed as a privately funded session. Note that most funding agencies do not cover late cancellation fees (NDIS is perhaps the only exception and will cover these costs too).

Please note that very few of us are SIRA registered, so we have limited availability for WorkCover and CTP clients (unless your case manager allows you to see non-SIRA registered practitioners).

We are also able to take on new NDIS referrals if the client is self-managed or plan-managed, and do not require us to be a NDIS registered provider.

Cancellation Policy

Please notify us >24 hours if you need to cancel your appointment (excluding weekends and public holidays). Late notice will incur half the standard session fee. Please understand that regardless of the reason (eg, sickness), a late cancellation results in a loss. Many practices expect the client to take on the entirety of this loss that incurred from their circumstances. While our practitioners are happy to share the loss, we are only able to do so for clients who are also willing to share their half too, since it is truly not viable to have it all shifted on to us.

We respect some clients may find the cancellation fee unacceptable. We can only ask these clients to be honest and upfront with us, so we can avoid reserving time in advance and ensure neither party is taking on more risk/loss than they can bare. The alternative arrangement we can try is just call on the day when a session is needed to see if a suitable slot is available.

No show (ie, no notice before your session time starts) will incur the full session fee. Your psychologist would have already prepared for the session, and spent significant portions of the session time waiting for you, in case you just are arriving late.

Other Services

Supervision are offered at $255 per session (plus GST). One-to-one is the preferred format but pairs or even small groups are possible.

ADHD Assessments to confirm or rule out a diagnosis will usually require 2-3 sessions. If report writing is required, it may cost roughly 2 hours (plus GST) and would not be covered by Medicare. The exact fees should be discussed between you and your psychologist in the first session.

Couples Therapy may also be offered at $330 per session when we have practitioners who are able to assist in this regard. Please note that Medicare does not cover couples work.

Requests for supporting letters or certificates, for the practice to correspond with outside parties (e.g., schools, carers, lawyers and such), or for us to compile, review, and send clinical records to outside parties, will each attract reasonable fees to cover the time, labor, and other costs involved.

Please note that we only offer Medico-Legal psychological reports and Expert Witness services (ie,, attending court to to provide expert opinions) under exceptional circumstances. For a crude guide of the fees involved, please see the current APS fee schedule. Please be reminded that the produced reports and clinical opinions must be unbiased and may not be advantageous to one’s case.
